NPR Distribution, Managers of the Public Radio Satellite System

Developing a Business Continuity Plan

2. Develop scenarios: Communication Scenarios (Page 1 of 3)

Communication scenarios address the question "Who needs to know or to take action to get this problem solved?" For each technical backup scenario, consider:

  • Internal Communication (with staff);
  • Communication with local emergency services;
  • Communication with PRSS;
  • Communication with listeners.

Each of your scenarios should address issues relating to all of these audiences that are relevant for a particular situation.

An example: If your station misses a feed of a national live program that you record for later playback, you will probably need to communicate internally and with PRSS, to arrange a refeed or to find out how to contact the producer for a tape. As long as you can get the audio before your local airtime, however, there is no need to inform listeners. For them, there is no problem.
