Network Operations Center (NOC)
Network Operations Center (NOC), located at NPR headquarters in Washington, DC, is the nerve center of the PRSS, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The NOC is responsible for coordinating more than 1300 transmissions each week to the channels scheduled by NPR Distribution. It oversees the overall system operation to ensure that transmissions to these channels are being properly executed, and it monitors the transponders to assure that all channels are operating within proper power and bandwidth limits.
The NOC also serves as the uplink for Washington, DC. It is owned by the Public Radio Satellite Interconnection System Charitable Trust and is operated as a system resource.
In addition to the NOC, transportable uplinks (both C and Ku-band) are available for transmitting events live from remote locations. NPR Distribution can assist in arranging for ISDN or other links to the system as well.
