Makegood Options
NPR Distribution offers producers the option of designating either one-time programs or program series for:
- short notice makegood status
- standard makegood status
With short notice makegood status, if an impairment occurs during transmission, we will book a makegood at the earliest available time on the satellite schedule without attempting to contact the producer first. At the time the impairment becomes known, an advisory DACS will be sent to stations, informing them of the problem and alerting them that a second DACS will follow as soon as possible to announce the scheduled makegood.
Short notice makegood status means that an impaired program will be "made good" at the next opportunity, but no sooner than one hour after the scheduled end of the impaired program.
Please note: Short notice makegoods are subject to the availability of resources needed to make good the feedincluding channel space, equipment, and STC uplink operating hours.
With standard makegood status, we will schedule a makegood for an impaired program within one to five days following the impaired transmission. Stations will be advised of the makegood via the daily DC Update on the DACS.
Under either status, producers will be notified as soon as possible of the time of the scheduled makegood. Please note, however, that with a short notice makegood status, NPR Distribution will proceed with booking the makegood promptly, as soon as the problem is detected. This responds to the concerns of producers whose first priority is to get the unimpaired program out on the satellite system as close as possible to its original scheduled feed time. However, it is important that producers who choose this option for their program or series be aware that not all stations may be able to air or record the program on such short notice. We will schedule one makegood of any individual impaired transmission.
Sometimes, because of the extremely timely or special nature of a program or because of technical difficulties or recording problems, a producer may elect not to have a feed made good. In these cases, NPR Distribution will notify stations that a makegood for the impaired program will not be scheduled. (Please note that, in general, live events cannot be made good.)
If you wish to designate a program or series for short notice makegood status, be sure to advise your Account Representative, or check the appropriate box on the Advance Scheduling form. All programs will be considered to have standard makegood status unless otherwise designated by the producer.
