NPR Distribution, Managers of the Public Radio Satellite System

Considerations for Live Programs

Live programs often require extra coordination by both the program source and Distribution staff. Keep the following points in mind for live programming:

  • If your program transmits regularly in the early afternoon, twice a year stations may not be able to receive your program because of solar interference.
  • Under most circumstances, if your live program is impaired, it cannot be retransmitted or "made good."
  • Transportable uplinking services may be available for live events. Other special audio routing arrangements are also available.
  • It is a good idea to schedule test time before your transmission so that possible audio routing problems can be minimized prior to the start of the program.
