NPR Distribution, Managers of the Public Radio Satellite System

Choosing a Time

In choosing a time to transmit your program, you should consider a number of variables:

  • Is your program regional in nature, or national? Keep in mind that national distribution means availability across six time zones.
  • Is your program of a timely nature, or will most stations be able to record it for later broadcast?
  • What else is being transmitted at the same time that you want?
  • If your program is more than one hour long, how will you handle station breaks? The location of breaks also has some bearing on how easy it will be for stations to record your program.

If you have any questions, please contact Public Radio Services at 202.513.2600 or via email.
