Special Audio Routing Arrangements for Live Programs

If your program is a live event that you wish transmitted as it happens, there are several ways of delivering the audio to the NOC.

Switched Digital Services
Telephone Line Extenders (Comrex, Gentner)
Dedicated Digital Lines
Video Subcarrier Turnarounds
Equalized Audio Lines
Transportable Uplinks

Dedicated Digital Links

NPR Distribution currently offers dedicated digital connections between certain locations in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles (Santa Monica), New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC.

Video Subcarrier Turnarounds

If your live event is also being televised via satellite, it may be possible to order special audio subcarriers on the video signal. The STC can receive a satellite video signal, strip off your audio, and retransmit that audio to the stations.

For further information, call Satellite Operations at 202.513.2664.

Equalized Audio Lines

The STC may be able to be connected to a live broadcast site in the area by special, equalized telephone lines ordered from the local telephone company. However, this service is being phased out in favor of switched digital services. If analog lines are still available, you can save some money by ordering these lines yourself. As a convenience, and at a small additional charge, NPR Distribution can help you with this process.
