PRSSSM ContentDepotSM Beta Site Launches

Station program directors will have multiple ways to access program information.
The new Catalog gives stations more program samples and information than ever before.
Producers will be able to add their own programs through an easy-to-use interface.
Producers will be able to upload broadcast quality audio for satellite transmission.

For producers and program directors alike, the Public Radio Satellite System® (PRSS) ContentDepotSM Catalog provides a centralized location for learning about new public radio programs and obtaining information about existing ones. A new, enhanced version of the PRSS ContentDepot Catalog launched in fall 2003, with expanded features for producers and program directors, including an easy-to-use web interface.
This version of the Catalog demonstrates some of the interactive capabilities of the ContentDepot, the new program delivery system being launched by NPR Distribution. Further implementation of the ContentDepot will occur through a series of releases through spring 2006.
Features for Stations:
- Search for programs by distributor, length, category, genre, region, and other criteria
- Download audition samples and promos
- Access additional information ("metadata") about the program, including contact, rights, and transmission information
Features for Producers:
- Upload and manage their own program audio and metadata online
- Submit programs for transmission by the System Technical Center (STC)
- Upload on-air promos
For producers, that means no longer having to physically ship programs to stations with the hope they'll be auditioned— no more shipping expenses, either. For program directors, the days of sorting through stacks of CDs or tapes to find the latest program are over.
An online training module is available to help producers learn how to use the expanded features of the Catalog. Developed originally as a how-to presentation for this year's PRC and the AIR Producer's Intensive by independent producer Stephen Hill, the module is designed to educate producers about methods for submitting their programs electronically to the STC and the ContentDepot Catalog.
As additional ContentDepot functionality is developed, the Catalog will enable stations to request satellite delivery of programs with the click of a mouse.
