NPR Distribution Back-up Facility Up and Running

NPR Distribution recently executed a lease agreement with WCVE-FM in Richmond, Virginia for the creation of a dedicated emergency uplink, offsite PRSS data storage, and network control facility should the STC and Washington, DC area require evacuation. According to Ralph Woods, deputy director of Operations, the Richmond facility is now up and running.

Says Woods of the selection of the WCVE facility, "The idea was to partner with another public broadcasting entity, because we felt that the synergies would be beneficial. We considered several partners, and WCVE turned out to be the best fit: they were reasonably close to DC and easily accessible through a number of routes; they had vacant space that was readily available; and, they were willing to help out and to permit the installation of an uplink antenna on their property."

If you have questions for us about this new facility or about Business Continuity Planning in general, please contact Ralph Woods via email at rwoods@npr.org. If your station does not have a business continuity plan for its own operations, our online training module can help you establish one.
