Changes to PRSS Communications Procedure

The PRSS has revised its procedure for sending system messages. In response to feedback from stations and producers, we have reduced the frequency of certain types of messages and the number of places where we post them.

As of Oct. 1, 2011, all messages - including impairments - are be delivered via the ContentDepot messaging system. We are no longer double-posting messages to the Pubtech, Dubnet and Pubradio LISTSERV email lists. Stations are reminded that an archive of all messages sent to the system can be found at WebDACS, which remains accessible at https://webdacs1.nprsat.org/.

In addition, non-emergency messages (e.g., maintenance announcements, Back-up NOC test dates) will only be sent twice. The first notification will be sent, at least 72 hours prior to the planned event, while the second notification will be sent on the day of the event. We will no longer send reminder messages on consecutive days leading up to the event unless some element of the original message has been revised. In this case, we will clearly state that the information has changed and that the original message is no longer valid. For unscheduled events, such as a system outage, we will continue to send out messages immediately and follow up with as many updates as necessary.

We encourage you to be sure that critical personnel are signed up for ContentDepot messaging – and understand how it works.

Permission to use the messaging system is given to your employees by your station's ContentDepot administrator. If you don't know who your station administrator is, please contact the PRSS Helpdesk at 800.971.7677 or prsshelp@npr.org. Documentation on the ContentDepot messaging system can found here: http://www.prss.org/contentdepot-userguides-messages.html
