NPR Distribution, Managers of the Public Radio Satellite System

PRSS Initiatives

ContentDepot
The PRSS currently has undergone its most significant upgrade since its initial construction in 1979. The ContentDepot takes advantage of technological innovations to streamline how stations and producers select, send, acquire, and automate programming.

Business Continuity Planning
The Distribution Division of NPR has extensive plans in place to maintain operations of the PRSS in the event of a wide variety of emergency situations. These plans deal with two categories of emergencies: the first involving the Galaxy 16 satellite, and the second involving the System Technical Center at NPR Headquarters in Washington, DC. Both categories provide for communications to PRSS interconnected stations to keep them apprised of developments.
