Satellite Usage

Q: Will the number of satellite frequencies change or decrease?

A: The number of satellite frequencies will decrease to one. All the content (files, audio streams, and messages) are multiplexed into one wideband satellite channel. Programs will be selected by packet address, not the satellite carrier frequency. The total capacity of the system will exceed what is available on the existing 24 channels.

Q: Will stations need to manage bandwidth?

A: The satellite bandwidth will be a shared resource in a multicast configuration so there will be no station-specific bandwidth to manage.
