ContentDepot® for Producers
The ContentDepot® is public radio's next generation program distribution system. It uses new technologies for distributing programming over satellite and for managing information. It offers producers more flexibility for delivering programming to the PRSS®, while simplifying and streamlining program access for stations.
The ContentDepot continues to use satellite distribution, as this technology still provides the most cost-effective and reliable means of delivering high quality audio programming to a diverse national network of radio stations. But, it also uses the Internet to offer producers and stations more flexibility and new services.
Think of the ContentDepot as a shopping mall for program distribution. It is a one-stop shop where producers can market their programs and track program information and stations can come to research and acquire new programs and manage existing ones.
The ContentDepot web portal is used by station program directors to subscribe to programs they are interested in auditioning or airing. Every producer has a username and password to the ContentDepot and storage space in the portal. Producers should think of their storage space as their store in the ContentDepot mall where they can post information (also known as metadata) about their programs. Producers may also post audio samples and promotional materials such as pictures, logos, bios, scripts, and web modules. If a program is an ongoing series, every individual episode and promo is listed in the ContentDepot, making it easier for stations to find specific episodes, promos, rundowns, and information.
