ContentDepot® Transition to Begin with Dual Operations
During the ContentDepot transition, PRSS® is operating the new ContentDepot® and the existing satellite distribution system simultaneously. The goals of this period of dual operation include:
- allowing stations and producers time to set up and test new equipment and delivery systems;
- resolving any local problems before cutover; and
- ensuring a smooth transition to full ContentDepot operations.
Dual operations began in November 2006. It is extremely important that you begin local testing of ContentDepot equipment and systems as early in this period as possible, so that any local problems can be resolved before cutover.
During dual operations, stations should plan to keep the existing ABR700's connected as a backup through the end of the transition. If you are running short of space, a minimal complement of two Comstream demodulators, one IF bus selector, and two downconverters should be sufficient.

How It Works
This diagram shows how dual operations works:

Live programs are streamed to ContentDepot® receivers while feeding over the old-style satellite channels.
Pre-recorded programs are uploaded to the ContentDepot file transfer system in addition to feeding over the old-style satellite channels.

Channel Changes During Dual Operations
To most effectively operate both systems simultaneously with existing resources, PRSS separated programming according to how it is delivered to stations under ContentDepot®. Fifteen of the available satellite channels carry live programs; nine carry pre-recorded programs. This separation is required to run two systems simultaneously.
Channel changes: Channel assignments for many programs changed when this separation took place.
Information about ongoing channel assignments: Public Radio Services staff provide information to producers about all changes in channel assignments as soon as changes are confirmed. The Distribution Center Update and daily Operations Schedule continue to provide the latest information about channel assignments.
